Custom Processing

We do custom washing and carding for individual sheep producers who want to make products from their own wool. Prices are for wool processed into batts or roving.

Quality

The cleanliness of wool is important. The cleaner the wool, the better your end product quality will be.

Tender wool affects the quality of your products. Tender wool is caused by illness or shearing after lambing. For instance, if the ewe gets a fever when she lambs, it can cause a weak place in the wool, which will tear like paper when pulled.

Parasites like keds (sheep ticks) weaken fiber and can stain your wool.

Pricing

Prices range from $6.00 to $7.50 per pound raw weight. We can process your wool into roving 2" in diameter, or batts 58" x 98" from 1/2"–4" thick. Breeds vary the processing requirements, so please contact us about your processing needs at (406) 288-3398.

Please be sure to include your name, address, telephone number, and kind of fiber when you send fiber or drop it off at the mill.

We require a 20-pound minimum. Our carder is large, and small amounts of wool get lost in the machine. Deposit required.

There is a $2.00 per pound extra fee if it is necessary for us to handpick the wool to remove chaff, burrs, and vegetable matter.
