Enjoy quilting with SUGAR LOAF WOOL batting. Our wool batts are 100 percent virgin wool and are resistant to compression. They are not chemically bonded, needle punched, or carbonized. Needles glide through wool batts, whether you are quilting by machine or by hand.

 

 

Batts measure 58" Wide by 98" Long.  It will take two batts to make a large comforter or quilt. 3" batts are ideal for comforters and mattress pads, and are best hand tied.  Batts may be used for quilts the same length as the batt.  They do stretch when put into a quilting machine sideways. 

 

Quilting is recommended no less than every 2 ½ to 3 inches on your home sewing machine or by hand. Smaller air pockets will reduce air circulation and hold less warmth. Lay back of quilt right side down; keep taught but do not stretch. Unroll batt, gently smoothing out from center. For large work using more than one batt, overlap edges of batts about 3 inches and baste with a darning needle in stitches 1 1/2 inch long. Our batts have a graduated edge, so overlapped section will be the same thickness as the rest of the batt. Add quilt top; safety pin closely or hand baste from center out. Machine quilt, hand quilt, or hand tie.
